To Black People You Matter

Our world leaders today want us to believe

that DEI is not important

but we are all important

and everyone should be included and not excluded

even if we're qualified to do the job

our applications simply get pushed to the side

not only for someone with less credentials than us

but simply because of the melanin in our skin

but how are we supposed to win

if we're limited to what they consider

a "black job"

now if they think we're going to just stand by

while they get rid of DEI

and other laws that were put in place

to protect people like you and I

well they are sadly mistaken

like Trayvon Martin

our children deserve to walk to the store

without getting sentenced to death

or like George Floyd

we deserve not to cry out for an ounce of breathe

while they continue to keep putting their feet on our necks

like Sandra Bland who was pulled over for a minor traffic stop

only to be murdered by a cop while in custody

like Brianna Taylor who was murdered in her own home

not by a burglar

but by police officers who are sworn in to serve and protect

like Ahmad Albery who was wrongfully shot

just for taking a jog around the block

to my black people

it's time to take a standb for what is right

no more sitting down while our children get shot and killed

while our Black men get shot and killed

while we get racially profiled and discriminated against

while our job applications get rejected

and our neighborhoods get neglected

how are we supposed to sit here and fake

when America was never great

for us

Black lives matter

Black children matter

Black families matter

Black education matter

you and I

we matter!
